Girl… goes food hopping in Brixton

April 24, 2016

Where: Brixton Village & Pop Brixton Why: I live in Brixton. In fact, I’ve lived here since before it was cool, so I’ve seen my neighbourhood go from ‘wouldn’t set foot there if you paid me’ to London’s most hipster foodie mecca. It all started around four years ago when a couple of developers got their hands on the two covered arcades, Brixton Village and Market Row, and transformed them from crumbling spaces that only sold hair weaves, aluminum pots and plantains to crumbling spaces that now house the best and most eclectic foodie joints in the capital (along with a few hair-weave stores, blue-soap stands and fish markets that are, sadly, being pushed out due to landlords jacking up the rents).

Girl… surfs Hossegor, France

April 20, 2016

Where: South West Surf Hostel, Seignosse, France Why: If you’ve read my piece on surfing in California at The Cali Camp either here or in the February 2015 edition of ELLE UK, you’ll know I’m hooked on surfing. It’s also where I met Chantal, the Swiss-German girl I shared a room with and who I’m now happy to call a friend. So when Chantal emailed me asking, “Do you want to go surfing in France?”  it was a no brainer and within hours, we’d booked our flights and accommodation and were off to the beaches of south-west France.

Girl… goes cruising down the danube

April 20, 2016

Where: A Taste Of The Danube river cruise, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary Why: I’m going to be honest here – I’ve never thought of myself as a ‘cruise person’. For better or worse, cruising has a ‘retirement’-slash-‘floating hen night’ stigma that has never really appealed to me. So when my friend Tony invited me to go with him on a press trip down the Danube for three nights on a luxury river-cruise, I decided to put my judgy ways behind me and give it a try.

Girl… stays at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Boston

April 20, 2016

Where: The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Boston, USA Why: Let’s face it – if you’re staying at any Mandarin Oriental hotel, you pretty much know you’re in for five-star luxury: gorgeous décor, excellent service, fine dining and brilliant bars, all put together in a great part of town. So it’s no surprise that the Mandarin Oriental Boston, with its imposing stone façade, elegant rooms and super-luxe spa, ticks all these boxes and more.

Girl… goes boutique swish in Bangkok, Thailand

April 9, 2016

Where: Tenface Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand Why: From the outside, you’d never guess this was one of Bangkok’s newest and hippest hotels. Confusingly, the signage on the building says ‘serviced apartments’, but this is very much a perfect example of the wave of cool boutique hotels springing up around the city.

Girl… gets five-star remote in Thai Tuscany

April 3, 2016

Where: Sala Khaoyai Resort, Wangkata, Nakorn Ratchasima, Thailand Why: If you’re looking for an alternative to the typical Thai beach experience, Sala Khaoyai ticks a lot of boxes. Set on top of a hill overlooking a green, mountainous part of Thailand known as ‘Thai Tuscany’, Sala is a tiny, five-star, modern-luxe boutique resort located in the gorgeous Khao Yai region just two hours north of Bangkok. The area is possibly Thailand’s best-kept secret,

Girl… goes 5-star luxe in a Thai National Park

April 1, 2016

Where: Muthi Maya Khao Yai, Pakchong, Nakorn Ratchasima, Thailand Why: Nestled at the foot of Thailand’s world-heritage-listed Khao Yai National Park is the five-star Muthi Maya resort, not that you’d know it was there… This huddle of 64 villas – set in a mini-neighbourhood along frangipani-lined streets of secluded luxury – is so off the map there’s not even signage on the main road.

Girl… stays in Thailand’s most luxurious golf resort

March 30, 2016

Where: Kirimaya Golf Resort & Spa, Pakchong, Thailand Why: Thailand has more to offer than just white sandy beaches and if you’re looking for a chill holiday that’s as cool as summer’s breeze, Kirimaya in the centre of Thailand might just be for you. As you drive through the litter-strewn debris and chaos of neighbouring village Pakchong, the five-star Kirimaya resort, hidden secretly in the foothills of the UNESCO world heritage Khao Yai National Park, couldn’t be a more tranquil antidote.
